Project Realm. The Islands of the Realm, Part 4

Today will feature the last part of my broad sweep of the Realm, where I will be looking at the last remaining island and one other location. This will end this phase of Project Realm, but there’ll be more of that later. First, let’s dive right into today’s locations! Thoughts, feedback… Well, you know the drill! ^_~

7. Island of Darkness (placeholder name)

This island holds the most malicious beings in all of the Realm and few outside would visit it by choice. A massive mountain range covers a large part of the island and surrounds the central area, known as the Dark Plains. The despotic Demons are the island’s iron fisted rulers. They have their main fortress on the South-Eastern part of the mountains and control a haven on the central Northern coast, thereby overseeing both entrances to the plains not going through the mountains. Just to the North-West of the Demon fortress stands the towering Fire Mount, an enormous volcano of which the scorching heat is said have no equal in the entire Realm. In the area near the Fire Mount dwell the Dragon Demons. Descended from both creatures they are named after, these terrifying creatures are among the most powerful in the Realm. The camps of the militaristic Minotaurs are located on the Eastern side of the plains. To the far South the highest peaks of the mountain range can be found and it is here where fearsome Dragons have their nests. Finally, on the North-Western coast, the only inhabited region on the island outside of the Dark Plains, an organization of slavers has their haven and main base of operations. They have an alliance of convenience with the peoples living of the Dark Plains and on rare occasion trade with the Dark Elves on the island to the South-West.

The Endless Mist
Image
The Endless Mist has been an age-old mystery. Knowledge of it extends no further than the fact that it covers most of the far Southern seas of the Realm. It consist of a fog so thick that seeing into it is impossible, even when close to it. Some speak of strange other worlds that lie on the other side, others say there is nothing there and the world ends where the Mist begins, but so far no theory has been proven. People have ventured into the Mist, attempting to pass through it and find out for themselves what lies beyond, but none of them have ever been heard of again.

And that concludes The Islands of the Realm. That was quite an enjoyable little endeavour, if I do say so myself. ^_^ But now it is time for the next stage of the project,  where I will be going into more detail on all the locations, species, cultures and other aspects of the Realm. It won’t be a small or easy task, but it’ll be so much fun! ^_^ This will very likely take more planning and time, so Project Realm probably won’t be a daily feature anymore, at least for a bit. In the meantime I will still be posting daily, though, and once I have planned things out and know more on which direction I want to take, I hope for things to speed up again. I hope those who have been following me on this project so far will continue to do so and keep enjoying what they see. So to them, as well as those just joining or yet to join, until next time!

About

Ever since a group of shoes held a birthday party a long, long time ago (though in a galaxy not that far away) a little boy’s appreciation for creation was born. And so, throughout the following years shoes partied, a dinosaur travelled through time, oddly shaped football players went on adventures, a young wanderer became a knight, a comedian rose to godhood, Jedi fought an evil empire, a war between cyborg warlords and human-insect hybrids engulfed the world… The boy had learned how with only words on paper (and from times to time a few pictures) he was able to bring people, places, even entire worlds to life. By now that little boy has reached almost the third decade of his life and his love for telling stories has not ceased. And finally, long after he had planned to, he has decided to share these stories with the world. Whether you are a new or already familiar face: welcome to this little archive of mine! This is a place where I will, finally, actually be sharing my writing with others. It will feature pretty much anything I feel like sharing, both old and new stories, fan-fiction and original content, and probably some non-fiction added in at times. So, if you like reading, writing, stories (or me ^_~), drop by, drop a comment (I can’t promise I’ll get back to you quickly, since I’m horrible at that, but I’ll do my best) and, drop it like it’s hot. … Sorry… ^_^; In any case, I hope you’ll enjoy yourself and I look forward to seeing you around!

Who? Just your average descendant of two sea-faring peoples, recently graduated anthropology Master and aspiring author with a life-long passion for writing.

What? Uhm, human. I think... Also a bit crazy, but in a good way. I think...

Where? A land under the sea, far, far away. Occasionally with my head in the clouds.

Why? Trying to get both my work and my love for writing out there, sharing them with others and getting in touch with fellow writers, artists and other like-minded people.

Hi! ^_^
