I’ve been pretty busy in the afternoon with a friend over (short but fun) and I haven’t really been able to think of anything to write today. So I went and jumped back into Inkscape. I’ve always liked to have these awesome movie style “posters” for my stories and this was particularly the case for the Star Wars stories. With Order 66: Another Side, Another Story close to being posted I figured it was time to blow some new life into that desire. And since the chance of me hiring the services of a talented illustrator were slim I decided to give it a shot myself. Now my drawing skills are, well, let’s call them limited. Thankfully I can always count on Inkscape and the Order of the Stick style to allow me to get some at last half-decent visual work out there. ^_^
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a style that still requires a lot of time, energy and skill to pull off and every time I work with it my respect for Rich Burlew grows exponentially! I’d say it’s easy to learn, but difficult to master and I’m definitely still very far from the master part. I like to think I’m improving, though. ^_^
Right. Well, I’ve started designing the characters from the Order 66 that will end up on the (digital) poster that I’ll be attempting for the story. First up is Jedi Knight Bultar Swan, one of my favourite Jedi and among the less than handful of canonical Star Wars characters in the story.
The result so far is not even nearing a proper final product (especially when you consider the original… Sorry, Mimi! ^_^;), but it’s a definitely start. Not sure how yet actively I’ll be sharing the progress, but with the banner done I do think I have found myself a new drawing project. Shiny!
By the way, you might have seen I’m learning how blog customization works even further! Right now I finally managed to get the categories visible in the sidebar and give Me and the cloudy copper beech tree a place in my little “Who, What, Where, Why” description. There is hope for me yet! ^_^
Now to figure out how to replace the text title with the banner. Step by little step I’ll eventually get there!
Well, see you around, everyone!
