The last couple of days have been, not the best. Passable, sure, but far from overly joyous. The temperatures reaching positively scorching levels, only to give way to firm winds and rain today wasn’t the most unpleasant thing to happen, though. At least, not to me personally. No, that dubious honour goes to last Wednesday when my laptop had given up the ghost. Its hard disk crashed and since I haven’t been making regular backups for some time quite a bit of the data on it is gone. To my knowledge I’ve lost a couple of short poems and the Inkscape files I used to work on the maps of the Realm and my avatar and character drawings. Content-wise I think most of the rest is still intact (*knock on wood*). Since a lot of it was either on the my external hard disk, mailed to myself or posted here the damage is, thankfully, relatively limited.
It’s still frustrating, especially since it’s not the first time and it has certainly affected me strongly in my daily life. It was, fairly obviously now, the main reason there hasn’t been any sign of activity or even presence on here for almost a week. I suppose what’s done is done. A computer-savvy former housemate will be installing a new hard disk in the upcoming week and I hope to get back to business after that. I’m already in the process of re-editing and rebuilding certain works (some nearly from scratch) and once I’m set again all I have to remember is: make, backups, constantly! Let’s not have this happen again!
What now? Well, I’m able to use the computer at my parents’ place to write for now – for which I am incredibly thankful –, so I’ll attempt to get most of the writing projects rolling again and repair the gaps of the past days. Project Realm might be the exception, as remaking the highlighted maps (at the very least the one to be used for the upcoming post) will take some time, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. My apologies for the lack of content and explanation for said lack of content. I hope you’re all still with me. There may be unavoidable bumps on the road from time to time, but I’m going to keep going. Promise! ^_^
