Chapter 5. Parting
Part 3. Breath of Life
Bultar opened her eyes wide. As if she had been under water for too long, she gasped for breath while sitting upright. Softly panting, she tried to calm herself. She had been on the edge of life and death a second time now, but the loss of life and then all of a sudden awakening again, it had been even more frightful than the first time. Never did she want to go through this experience again.
“Are you alright?”
Bultar looked next to her as she heard Vhiran’s question. When she had calmed from the sudden shock she nodded softly. Panting and covered in sweat, Vhiran smiled faintly in return.
Shamila had kneeled down at Nillanthir’s side. “Nill,” she said softly while looking at him in worry. “Nill? Hey, Nill? Are you alright?” The girl moved closer to the Master, placed her small hands around his right hand and rubbed it softly. “Please wake up, Nill.”
Suddenly Vhiran started to blink and shake heavier. He felt he could pass out any moment now. The next moment his eyes widened and then immediately closed. Vhiran gasped once and fell down. Shamila let out a short scream when she noticed her Master falling, but Bultar quickly caught Vhiran before he hit the ground and held him.
Bultar looked over her shoulder as she saw the nervous looking Padawan looking in her direction. “He’ll be alright,” she said in an assuring tone. “And Master Nillanthir as well,” she added with a smile as she saw Shamila’s face turning to the unconscious Nillanthir.
The girl nodded. Then, suddenly, she saw some blood on the back of Nillanthir’s head, caused by the fall. She quickly pulled her sash from her waist. While dabbing the small wound with it and caressing Nillanthir’s silver wing softly, Bultar smiled at the unconscious Vhiran in her arms and stroke through his hair. At the exact same moment two similar thoughts went out to the two Knights. ‘Don’t worry. I’m here.’
