Chapter 6. Last Dance
Part 5. Parted Ways
“I never thought the day we fight to death, would be today of all days…,” said a cold and bitter voice.
Nillanthir turned and his gaze met emerald eyes, full of pure hatred. “What do you mean by those words, Aoshi?” Nillanthir said and he took note of Aoshi’s weapon, a long katana which he held in his left hand. He then looked back to those piercing eyes. Why was Aoshi against him now? He could remember him offering to help the Jedi and even teaching Nillanthir the way of the Kaiten Kenbu style of swordsmanship.
Aoshi then placed his weapon in front of him with the sheath. “Now is not a time for words. Prepare yourself for I will not show mercy to a traitor like you…,” he called then ran towards Nillanthir.
He doesn’t seem to have anything that blocks a lightsaber… Or does he? Nillanthir thought as he made an overhead strike. His blade touched Aoshi’s and yet there was no cut. Aoshi’s sword had somehow blocked it. Nillanthir was confused by this but then he saw a flash of sunlight on the corner of his right eye, the light of the early rising sun was being reflected by something metal. Two kodachis! Nillanthir thought and suddenly leaped back, feeling a cold blade pass by him, scraping his stomach slightly. Landing a small distance away from Aoshi he looked as the wooden sheath fell to the ground. “Two kodachis,” Nillanthir said “Both with cortosis alloy blades. I see these weapons were made to fight lightsaber wielders.”
“These weapons were designed to kill the Sith… But now I know the truth. The Jedi have betrayed everyone and tried to rule the galaxy. You will die by my double kodachis.” Aoshi then quickly dashed towards Nillanthir and made a series of strikes that came at tremendous speeds and accuracy at the same time. Nillanthir could barely block them. He then leaped over Aoshi and placed his lightsaber in his left hand and deactivated it, taking on the Gatotsu stance, holding his weapon parallel to the ground and up near the shoulder.
“I’m sorry. I have no choice but to kill you now. I can feel you have no chance to change your mind, but there is a hidden reason you wanted to fight me,” Nillanthir said, then dashed forward and as he made the movement to stab, he quickly activated his lightsaber. Aoshi slightly misjudged the distance and felt a slight burning sensation as his right cheek was scratched by the attack. Nillanthir then leaped back once more took on the stance of the Soresu form, placing himself on the defensive.
“I too am sorry, and I will kill you and at least place some honour on your gravestone after I bury you,” Aoshi said calmly. He then seemed to fade in and out, moving around Nillanthir.
“So you use this technique… I will play along.” With that Nillanthir too began to fade in and out. Both warriors surrounded each other, ready to use the same technique. In an instant both warriors appeared beside each other and three strikes were made. Both landed on their feet and waited. Pain filled both of them as three cuts appeared on both their right arms. They both hit each other with the same attack.
