And we are off! As of today NaNoWriMo 2016 has officially started and so have I! At the time of writing this first log of the month I haven’t finished the necessary word count for today, but with about 200 more to go I feel that won’t prove too much of a hurdle.
This year I decided to start my writing journey at the local library. There isn’t any write-in there, but I thought it would be a good place to write: quiet, surrounded by books and without too many distractions to keep my from my task. So I set out with my laptop, sat down, tweeted a picture of my laptop and the text document just before my big start and, I off I went!
My experience? It was okay. Perhaps it was because this library was a new environment to me (and a less quiet one than expected, at that), perhaps because I’m a little rusty writing-wise and have to get back into things, or perhaps I was distracted by having to go to the bathroom in the middle of my writing session, but I’d hoped for a slightly smoother start. Just need to get, as they say, in the zone, I suppose.
Thankfully, the story is kicking off, though. It’s appearing a bit more serious than expected at the moment, but then again, I am fairly new to writing humour outside of the gag-and-reference galore of the ‘fun fiction’ I used to write. I’m confident both the story and I will find our stride soon enough.
And that was the first day of my NaNoWriMo 2016 experience. Unfortunately a bit of a slow start, but hey, it’s the first day. Everything can still happen and I’m keeping a pretty positive attitude towards things. For now I will go back to finish those last (and hopefully a few more) words for today before recuperating for the next day. One day (almost) down, twenty-nine more to go! Let’s do this!
