Oh, hey! Didn’t see you there! No, you can stay. No trouble at all. I was just pondering on all the writing I could have done at this point in my life I wasn’t so easily distracted. I’m not talking about the regular daily responsibilities, like work, housekeeping, social contacts and other enjoyable and less enjoyable activities that inevitably take up a portion of the day. No, I’m talking about the distractions, mostly pouring forth from the digital world through the screen before me and into my life.
It’s kind of funny actually. Despite these distractions keeping me, well, distracted well into the late afternoon, I still succeeded at writing nearly 2,000 words for this year’s NaNoWriMo project! And that’s using mostly the evening hours! Now it may be the stress that’s the major driving force behind much of the productivity, but imagine if I used all those earlier hours – okay, a fair part of them. There should be a time and place for those quite enjoyable pastimes – on writing! I might just have a small personally written library already!
Things are looking up, though, and just to be sure I’m saying that while knocking on wood, throwing salt over my shoulder and hanging horseshoes and four-leaf clovers wherever I can see them. Because I have a fairly busy life outside of this blog and my writing, getting back on track will likely not be done in a single day. Therefore I’ve set myself the goal that on busy days, I make sure I get no further than one day behind, while on the days with very little other activity I aim to write as much as I can to catch up. Not quite as ambitious as what I originally wanted to go for, but seeing how things have been going throughout the month, I think this is the most effective strategy for making it to the 50,000.
Now, the story. Two major developments over these past two days. The first is actual contact between the protagonists. It’s been there in bits and pieces throughout the story, but not quite as directly as this, until now! Secondly, I’ve been delving into the Ancient Egypt part some more. As I told in the Road to NaNoWriMo, that’s the setting where the story mainly takes places and it finally has received some much needed attention. The result is something I actually hadn’t planned for the most part, but I must say I am enjoying it tremendously!
Wheh, only ten more days to go. We’re just blasting through this thing, aren’t we? I’m still eager to make it to the finish line, so I hope you’ll continue to follow me as I make my way there! See you next time! ^_^
